Henry Darger worked as a hospital custodian throughout his adult life. In private, he wrote a 15,000 page fantasy novel entitled The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What Is Known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion, accompanied by several hundred large-scale illustrations. The works were discovered posthumously by his landlord.
